2018 Annual Town Meeting

The Amity Annual Town Meeting will be held on March 31, 2018 at the Reed School by the Town Office. The meeting will start promptly at 9:00AM. There is an opening for selectmen with the term of Joey Ledger expiring. Joey has said he does not intend to run again. There is also a opening for School Board Member with the term of Gorden Ledger expiring in June of 2018. Gorden has said he does not intend to run again.

So if you have an interest in becoming a Selectmen or School Board Member just show up at the meeting, have someone nominate you and you will be in the running. Selectmen and School Board Member are always elected by written ballot.

We encourage all to attend and participate in your local government.

TO:         Cheryl Williams, a resident and citizen of the Town of Amity, County of Aroostook, and State of Maine.

GREETINGS:

 

                In the name of the State of Maine, you are hereby requested to notify and warn the Inhabitants of the Town of Amity, in said county, qualified to vote in Town affairs, to MEET at the REED SCHOOL BUILDING, IN SAID TOWN, ON SATURDAY MARCH 31, 2018 AT   9:00 O’CLOCK AM IN THE Morning to act on the following articles to wit:

Art. #1.                  To elect a MODERATOR to preside at said Meeting.

Art. #2.                  To elect one SELECTMAN for a term of three years. The term of Joseph P. Ledger having expired.

Art. #3.                  To elect one SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER for a term of three years. The term of Gordon Ledger expiring June 2018.

Art. #4.                  To see if the Town will vote for Taxes to be due upon receipt and to charge 8% interest beginning 60 days after Commitment.

Art. #5.                  To see if the Town will vote to give a discount of 2% on taxes paid 30 days from date of billing.

 

Art. #6.                  To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Selectmen, on behalf of the Town, to dispose of any real estate acquired by the Town, for nonpayment of taxes thereon, on such terms as they may deem advisable and to execute quit claim deeds for such property. The Town at the Selectmen’s discretion may retain such property.

                               

Art. #7.                  To see if the Town will vote to take $5,000.00 from the Undesignated Fund (surplus), as they deem advisable to meet unexpected expenses or emergencies that occur during the fiscal year 2018/19.

Art. #8.                  To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate to pay Town Officials $7,340.00 for the ensuing year from Revenue Sharing. Art. #28.                To see if the Town will vote to increase the property tax levy limit established for Amity by State law in the event that the municipal budget approved under the preceding articles will result in a tax commitment that is greater than that property tax levy limit.

Art. #30.                To see if the Town will vote to take $5,000.00 from Undesignated Fund to set aside for future Hot Topping.
